a post for the vomitorium [Jun. 5th, 2008|10:44 am]
I've been listening to Barry Manilow's Weekend in New England.
My spamster has been in NE all week.

Time in New England took [you] away
To long rocky beaches, you by the bay
We started a story who's end must now wait
And tell me...
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when will hold you again

I can't help it. I don't know what's wrong with me! I've fallen into a huge vat of cheese and I can't seem to get out. I miss my husband.

Aw crap. Now Mandy is on. Man! That Barry just doesn't stop with his sweet, tender lyrics!!

cleaning cleaning cleaning [May. 28th, 2008|09:52 pm]
more visitors tomorrow! it has been the spring of ultimate visits! this week: the fabulous Lady T and Ms Gloria. I can't wait to see them, especially since we missed Theresa while we were in DC last. I swear, I don't think my house has been this clean for this long ever. Each week is like a new spring cleaning exercise. I love it!

Telie pics to be posted to picture pages later tonight. And of course more pics of a mad sciencegeek weekend to be posted next week. (Please spaghettimonster, let the snippets lounge drown out the geekery!!)

I haven't been this stressed getting tickets since I was 16 and trying to get tickets to a Cure show. (my how times have changed...)

fuck - it's going to be brilliant.

yes! I'm writing about eurovision AGAIN. suck it. [May. 21st, 2008|09:00 am]
watch this. the front runners.

personally I am still shocked ireland didn't make it. really! sure we had a puppet for a singer - but the song was cheese-a-licious. and super sparkley! and had feathers!! sparkles AND feathers - I mean come on! who doesn't love sparkles and feathers?! though come to think of it - why they didn't have a real rapper for dustin's part instead of the ugly duck puppet I don't really get. (yes, there are irish rappers. I know...stop giggling.) maybe it wouldn't have seemed like we were taking the total piss. ah, well.

I have a total girlcrush on greece. (it comes from that girly part of me that is filled with pink unicorns and still loves doing the electric slide to madonna's holiday.) anyway - greece is getting my vote. though I do still dig israel. only...well, I still have this geography issue with israel and cannot bring myself to vote for a country that technically is located in asia. (if they can get in, why can't we?!)

so go greece. you've had great entries for the past four years. this year you get my 60 cents.

okay never mind [May. 20th, 2008|10:01 pm]

it's that time of year again! bring on the cheese! [May. 20th, 2008|09:25 am]
I LOVE Eurovision. it's a sickness, but I LUUUUUUUUUUUURVE it so bad.
I cannot wait for tonight! and I dig the fact that they are skipping wednesday so I can also watch my boys kick some blue ass in moscow.

Have a taste. This is Grade A Europe's Finest Cheese.

I can see why people think sweden is going to win. the synchronized arm movements at the end is very dramatic. (sometimes winning can come down to who has the most dramatic arm movements. no - I mean it really.) note: don't watch the russian vid from that link. that's the bathroom break for the competition. I mean, dude... one enrique eglasias is enough.

I'm annoyed. (yes, again!) [May. 9th, 2008|01:02 pm]
a girl in england killed herself. she listened to my chemical romance. there is now an inquest into whether it was the band's fault.

naturally, food should go off [May. 6th, 2008|03:10 pm]
fascinating article on why you shouldn't eat food that doesn't rot.

I grew up eating sunbeam bread. I always wanted wonder because it had colourful polkadots on it (like rainbows and unicorns, polka dots are cool), but that is beside the point. when I met spam one of the first things we debated about was american bread - good or sucks? as a not-proud-but-definitely-defensive american I was shocked at his accusation that we "yanks" do not know good bread. how dare he!!! bread is like my favourite thing in the whole world aside from cookies! I know good bread! but after a few hours of arguing I realised he may have a point. after all the sliced, squidgy stuff you find in aisle 2 of the supermarket is a bit weird. the way it sticks to the roof of your mouth some, but not all of the time. how if you roll it up into a ball it goes back to almost-dough. and even more weird - it stays fresh forEVER. it takes almost two weeks to grow mold on squidgy bread. I started to remember back to 3rd grade science fair project about mold and realised WOW - bread should grow mold a lot faster than that!

spam was right. our bread is weird. really weird. I mean, what exactly is it if it doesn't grow mold. I couldn't stop thinking - shouldn't it grow mold?! where's the mold!!! what is this stuff surrounding my neon orange plastic cheese and eggless, fat-free mayo!!!!!!!!! it isn't bread. OH GOD - IT ISN'T BREAD!!!

of course, I've calmed down since then. sure, he won that argument. but I do still occasionally eat squidgy bread. (when desperately homesick for american-processed additives, of course. and yes - I do sometimes miss them. a lot.)

bootcamp motivation [Apr. 24th, 2008|04:28 pm]
went to a really good web bootcamp yesterday. first session was on identifying user personas for your web site. very interesting - though building character maps was a bit much. including adding a realistic photo.

the afternoon seminar was brilliant. future of web, building mobile websites, and inside-out branding... I am trying to figure out a way to tell tptb here that they need to get the guy from google in to do his talk. he was SO FREAKING GOOD. incredibly good speaker, really great points. I felt so motivated and excited and really wish I were doing something more involved. I miss using my brain. (well other than for ANTM analysation.)

it's interesting (and so helpful) to get an outside perspective on online marketing. I think having sessions like this in work could do so much to motivate the peeps. there might not be such a huge purge of staff if they did.

grandma della's pasta maker [Apr. 18th, 2008|05:45 pm]
I'm about to make pasta using my grandma's pasta maker. It hasn't been used in 20 years. I'm excited, a bit freaked out.

I just tested the cutting rollers (not yet with test dough - but will do that soon). I think I will make basic spaghetti tonight because it's my favourite and I have a feeling that is the last thing my grandma made.

very simple tomato-based sauce with garlic and chilli is spam's job.

I'll keep you posted how it goes. maybe put up some photos of the process.

mars living [Apr. 10th, 2008|04:05 pm]
this is weird.

I think it's crap on account of the pretty, red, falling pot leaves. still - someone went to a lot of effort. there is even an ad in the newspaper.
